Robbery outside Buddy’s Pool Hall

Gunmen grab $1.2M after shooting up cambio manager’s vehicle

Armed with high-powered weapons,  gunmen created confusion on Sheriff Street at around 18:30 hrs last evening, snatching some $1.2M from a cambio manager’s vehicle before shooting the manager of Buddy’s Pool Hall during their escape.

The gunmen, who had apparently been trailing manager of Swiss House Cambio Mohamed Hussain, also known as “Eggball”, escaped with the businessman’s money bag after shooting out the left window of his Hilux pickup, which was in the parking lot.
Buddy’s manager, 37-year-old Nandalall Persaud, was shot in his leg during the brazen incident, and was treated and then released from the Georgetown Public Hospital.
It is believed that the attackers escaped in a silver-grey car which was reportedly parked in Fourth Street, Campbellville, in proximity to Len’s Variety Store.
Eyewitnesses estimated that the episode lasted for about 30 seconds.
Kaieteur News was told that the gunmen, numbering around three and reportedly brandishing assault rifles, struck while Buddy’s was in full swing.
The gunmen had apparently been staking out Hussain’s Hilux pickup, GJJ 4904, and they struck when the cambio manager went into Buddy’s gym to work out.
At around 18:30 hrs, the men entered Buddy’s parking lot, where the pickup was parked, and opened fire on the left side front door.

The gunshots shattered the pickup’s left window, and this allowed the attackers to gain access to the money bag that was inside.
Speaking briefly to Kaieteur News, Hussain said that he had driven from Swiss House Cambio in Water Street and arrived at the night spot at around 17:45 hrs.
He then entered the night club after leaving a bag containing $1.2M in local currency in the locked vehicle, which was in the parking lot.
The businessman said that he was working out in the gym at around 18:30 hrs when he heard gunshots.

Hussain said the first thought that came to him was that gunmen were “shooting up” the building, and he immediately took cover at the back of the gym.
After the gunfire eventually subsided, he ventured outside, saw his bullet-riddled vehicle, and realized that the money was gone.
The cambio manager surmised that the gunmen had trailed him from Water Street, but said that he had not observed anything unusual during his journey.
Eyewitnesses said that after removing the cash from Hussain’s vehicle, the gunmen continued to fire several shots while running south down Sheriff Street, sending security personnel and patrons who were outside the premises scurrying for cover.
According to an eyewitness, Buddy’s manager, Nandalall Persaud, and another employee fled in the same direction, and took cover in Fourth Street, Campbellville, near the concrete wall of Len’s Variety Store.
However, one of the bullets struck Hussain in the leg.
An employee of the variety store said that he was at the back of the compound when he heard about five gunshots, which seemed to be coming from the direction of Buddy’s Pool Hall.
The employee said that, shortly after, he heard heavier gunfire and the sound of people screaming.
He immediately took cover at the back of the premises.
The employee said that after the gunfire subsided he saw two other employees lifting the wounded Persaud from the spot where he had taken cover.
Staffers at Buddy’s Pool Hall immediately closed the premises.
According to the reports, the gunmen fled in the direction of Sophia.
Several police ranks converged on the scene shortly after, and Kaieteur News understands that some of them later conducted searches at a house in Campbellville.
The brazen robbery outside the popular entertainment spot came even as security personnel remain on high alert following the attack at Police Headquarters and the massacre of eleven people at Lusignan
