PNCR and Corbin must clarify CASH issues about Taiwan visit

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has noted with concern that the Leader of the PNCR and Opposition Robert Corbin has made a visit to Taiwan .  This is no doubt a visit by the PNC to raise funds to continue their destabilisation efforts in Guyana and for the elections.

The PNCR leader in a letter in the Kaieteur News claimed credit for the PNC in opening diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China (PRC).  That is a half truth and a distortion of the whole picture.

The voting record of the PNC government at the United Nations on the Albanian Resolution on the seating of the PRC is a reflection of that Party’s opportunism and unprincipled behaviour.  The record will show that that Party voted against that Resolution and in later years abstained from voting, claming that Taiwan also has the right to be seated at the U.N.

It was only when it became pellucidly that the Albanian Resolution would have been passed that the PNC regime voted for it.

In recent years, it could be noted that Taiwan has adopted a policy to bribe nations and certain political operatives to give it diplomatic recognition.  This is part of the separatist policy on the part of Taiwan ’s leaders to frustrate its re-unification with China .

Surely, the PNCR must have noticed this as well and want to cash in on Taiwan ’s bribery attempts.  They are hoping to put a lot of cash in the coffers of the PNC.

The Taiwanese will no doubt see this as an investment in their goal of separating from the rest of China.

The PNC has always been extremely unprincipled.  This is a demonstration that most important is their self interest.  It shows that that Party is ready to act against the national interest of Guyana for a few dollars.

By contrast the PPP has always held a principled position on this question.  The Party is on record of mounting demonstrations and on record of always calling for the seating of the PRC as the only legitimate representative of China .

            We reiterate that position today.

The PNCR and its Leader must come clean and say to the nation who paid for Mr. Corbin’s visit and how much cash he and his Party received.
