The Dharm Shala, which is located at Sussex and King Edward Streets, Albouystown, received $1,726,000, which is to be used to rehabilitate the roof of the building, while the PYARG programme received $347,400, which sum will be used to purchase computer software and equipment.

The cash donations were made possible through the Foreign Commonwealth Office.

During the simple presentation ceremony, British High Commissioner to Guyana Mr. Stephen Hiscock handed over the cheques to representatives of both organisations.

Mr. Harry Ramsaroop of the Dharm Shala said he was mindful for the donation, which would help in a significant way with the refurbishment of some parts of the building.

According to Mr Ramsaroop, the roof of the building is leaking and some of the inmates are affected whenever it rains. The money would be used to purchase roof sheets to replace those that are damaged, he explained.
