Family
of abducted taxi driver still hopeful after nearly two months
It is fast approaching two months since taxi-driver Khamraj Dalchand was
kidnapped, but relatives continue to hope for his safe return, despite
no word from his abductors.
The 42-year-old father of three, of Cane Grove/ Virginia, Mahaica, was
kidnapped on April 24 as he was dropping off a passenger in the Mahaica
area. His abandoned taxi was recovered at Mocha Arcadia, East Bank
Demerara, the day after, with no clues to the missing man’s
whereabouts.
Later in the day his relatives learned the truth of what had happened to
Dalchand when his kidnappers contacted his family and demanded a $5M
ransom for his release. After subsequent negotiations the ransom was
reduced to $2.5M, which was scraped together by his family and
dropped-off at a pre-arranged location at Victoria, East Coast Demerara.
However Dalchand was never freed and relatives have yet to hear from him
since.
Speaking with Stabroek News last week Dalchand’s wife said that all
she and her three children can do now is hope and pray to see him again.
She added that the family is at present desperate for any news about
Dalchand’s whereabouts and is willing to offer a reward for any
information.
