PROTEST ditch: one of the ditches on the road dug by protesters at the junction of the villages of Vigilance and Friendship, near Buxton.
A
CONTINGENT from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has been deployed to Buxton,
East Coast Demerara, to repair breaches in the railway embankment road in that
village, the Army reported yesterday. The
repairs by the Army are intended to open up the road, ditched last month by
protesters, to vehicular traffic. According
to the GDF, a section from 4 Engineer Squadron, under the command of Project
Manager Major Randolph Beresford will be responsible for repairing the
breaches. Additionally,
the GDF said a platoon commanded by Captain David Clarke will provide
"security for the task force as well as conducting confidence patrols
within the community and its environs"
