Bandits smash way into businessman’s home


 

TWO gunmen armed with a shotgun and a handgun broke into the home of a Yarrowkabra business couple and made off with close to half million dollars in cash and jewellery.
The robbery took place just before midnight on Friday at the home of Coreen and Colin Wilson at Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
Reports reaching Kaieteur News stated that Coreen Wilson was taking a bath in her outdoor bathroom when she noticed two masked men hiding in her yard.
Suspecting they were bandits, the woman bolted from her bathroom without putting on her clothes and ran into her house.
She bolted her doors and secured herself inside, while her husband tried to close the gate.
The men pounced on him and held him at gunpoint.
They ordered him to instruct his wife to open the door to the house.
When the woman refused, the bandits discharged two rounds into the air and then smashed a glass door to gain entry to the house.
After ransacking the house, the men carted off jewellery worth $360,000, US$70 and $39,000 in local currency and made good their escape.
Police are investigating.


Taxi hijacked, driver dumped

A taxi driver had his car hijacked on Saturday night by two gunmen who dumped him behind the Botanical Gardens after hiring him to take them to South Ruimveldt.

Stabroek News understands that Marvin Beam of Campbellville was hired by the two men from the Stabroek Market area. But as he made his way to the destination the bandits ordered the man to stop, forced him into the back of the vehicle and later dumped him behind the gardens before making off with his vehicle.

The man later reported the matter and the vehicle was discovered at around 3 am yesterday morning at Good Hope, East Bank Demerara.

Stabroek News understands that a man who was found in the vicinity of the vehicle was arrested and is assisting the police in the investigation.
