Continual breakages force businessman

to ‘shut shop'

 

A Soesdyke businessman was forced to close his business due to severe losses he experienced from continual breakages.

According to Sheik Yaseen, the President\ Finance Director and owner of the Tradewinds Marine Industries, situated at Yarrowcabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway , since the birth of the company in October 2003, it has been the target of a series of break and enter.

He related that the building was protected by manual security and because of its magnitude he attempted to obtain a large quantity of high-tech security devices with duty free concession from overseas, but was always turned down. He said that he also tried to acquire a generator.

Yaseen said that on one occasion he was told by a representative of the Guyana Office for Investment (Go-Invest) he has no need for a back up high calibre generator which he attempted to obtain because he can utilize the services of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL).

Reportedly, his company which is a multi-million dollar establishment, is jointly owned with Camille Gonsalves who shares the same address as his.

To date, Yaseen said there were already three breakages for this year, the last occurring May 22, leading to losses in the excess of $4 million.

This newspaper learnt that so far, one suspect was apprehended by the police and taken into custody.

Items that were reportedly stolen included electrical appliances, machine spares, table saws, compressors, sanding machines, sanding discs and spare parts.

Yaseen related that, since most of the production machinery was stolen he had no other alternative than to close. He further stated that he is frustrated and thinks the police are not conducting proper investigations into the breakages.

Yaseen said that his company had specialized in the manufacture of furniture and pre-fabricated houses.
