Group condemns killing of businesswoman 


THE Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) has condemned the brutal killing of businesswoman Koshmantie Singh, of Pato's General Supplies Wholesale and Retail store in Albouystown, Georgetown, and the wounding of three others by bandits on Monday night. 

In a press release yesterday, the group also condemned last week's kidnapping and the physical and psychological torture inflicted on Devindra Sharma, Executive Director of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the wounding of his wife Maria Sharma. 


Mrs. Sharma is a student pursuing post-graduate studies in Economics at the University of Guyana. 


The IAC extended its condolences to the family of Singh and sent get well wishes to Devindra and Maria Sharma, and those who were wounded in the Albouystown shooting. 


The committee condemned the continued attacks by bandits on businesses, especially those owned by Indo-Guyanese, and businesspersons, especially those of Indo-Guyanese origin. 


"This type of reckless criminal behaviour can only retard the development of Guyana as capital and human resources will be forced to flee these shores and expected investment will be hesitant in arriving or may not arrive at all", it added. 


It urged the Guyana Police Force to ignore its detractors and fulfill its duty to the nation "and move swiftly within the law to remove these brutish bandits from the streets and villages of Guyana."
