The
police were
outgunned and
outmanoeuvred, something
had to be done
Saturday,
April 16th 2005
Dear Editor,

Terminator,
former Minister of Home Affairs Ronald
Gajraj, who is now Guyana's
Ambassador to India
Whether it was Mr. Gajraj or whoever it was that assembled
the Death Squad / Phantom Force, imagine where we probably
would have been today without their intervention. They are
the only reason why we were able to sleep a little more
soundly at nights.
The police were obviously outgunned, outfoxed and
outmaneuvered, many a time even running for their lives,
much less confronting the problem head on.
If it was indeed Mr.
Gajraj who was responsible, he probably was the only
individual with the audacity to undertake arresting the
problem by the only means available in a time of crisis and
terror.
My question is where were these US,
Canadian, and EU
donors when our sisters and mothers were being
brutalized. Where were they when innocent, hardworking men
were being systematically shot and killed in their homes, in
the presence of their children who will forever be scarred!
I know where I was,...wondering when my family would be
next!
What had to be done had to be done, and thousands of
Guyanese whether they are willing to admit it or not, are
eternally grateful.
Yours faithfully,
S.C.
Persaud
